SALES OF CIDER.
RULING BY MAGISTRATE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. No license is necessary for the sale of cider in New Zealand, provided it is sold in quantities of not less than two gallons and is not consumed on the premises. That is the decision of Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in what amounts to a test case, the defendant being Bernard Thomas Turner, of Woolston, who was charged on February 7 with selling liquor without a license- . Constables had bought two bottles of cider, which contained 15.48 per cent, proof spirit. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £2 for selling cidey in less than two gallons, but the Magistrate refused an order entitling the police to confiscate the liquor seized, and the utensils.
