DEFEAT OF MINISTER. Received March 11, 12.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 11. In the final count in the Victorian elections, the Deputy-Premier, Mr I. MacFarlan, who was for a time unable to get ahead of Lieut.-Colonel Herring, his unendorsed U.A.P. opponent at Brighton, was returned with a majority of over 500. In the Kara Kara-Borung electorate the Minister of Education (Mr J. W. Pennington), who was behind the two Country Party candidates on their aggregate votes, was defeated.
