RAIN IN WELLINGTON.

SPORTS ABANDONED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. _ Steady, light rain has been falling since last night. It is very welcome after an almost unbroken dry spell since October. All cricket matches and athletic fixtures are off, but not the rowing.

OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS.

PALMERSTON NORTH WEATHER

There was an overcast sky at Palmerston North this morning, with indications that rain was imminent, and at 2 p.m. a light shower eventuated, the likelihood being that rain would continue. The weather was very oppressive this morning, a temperature of 81 degrees in the shade being recorded. A few scattered drops of rain fell at about 12.30 p.m., but passed over in a few seconds. A gusty wind was Wowing to-day.
