(From Our Own Correspondent.)* APITI, Jan. 15. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Apiti Althetic Sports Club held on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr C. K. Viles, was in the chair. The review of the year’s activities included details of the sports meeting and dance, also a tug-of-war contest which it was hoped would assist the club’s finances. Unfortunately, bad weather affected these functions with the result that at the time tlie funds were low. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officials for services to the club. Mr E. 11. C. Cummerfield was re-elected patron and Air C. F. Vilcs president; secretary, Air J. Kearney, junr. The election of other officials will be confirmed at the next meeting. It was decided to hold the sports meeting on March 6 provided the date did not coincide with oilier meetings in the district. Air J. Swift guaranteed the necessary funds. A canvass of the district is to be made for a list of members at a fee 2s 6d each. The official canvassers are Messrs J. Swift (township), T. Nix (South .Road), D. Kearney (Table Flat), and N. Viles (Alakoura Road), C. Viles (Alain Road), J. Kearney, junr. (Ridge Road), and T. Fowell (Norservood Road). Mr T. W. Pratt offered 10s 6d to the club, and if nine others would do likewise Air l’ratt will double his donation. Alcssns A. Brooking. R. Taylor, and E. H. ('ummerfiekl were elected life members. Another meeting will be held shortly to revise the sports programme. If sufficient support is forthcoming some amateur events for local talent will lie included. Air E. H. Cummerfield presided at a recent meeting of the Apiti Cemetery Trustees. Also present were Messrs \V. J. Osborne, J. F. Jenson and J. Kearney, junr. Air Hugh Osborne, who has left the district, forwarded his resignation, which was received with regret. Air Kearney was instructed to write to Air Osborne conveying the thanks of the trusteed tor his ii.iui services over a long period. The nomimiton of Mr W. Hogan to fill the vacancy is to be forwarded lo the l’oliangma c oumy Council.

The Kimbolton tennis team played Apiti in the first round of the Haythorne Cup competition at the Apiti courts. The Apiti team was short of one woman player and Miss Is. Ilair, of Kimbolton, helped out by playing for Apiti. Aliss Coral Andersen, of Auckland, who is visiting her brother, Air G. Andersen, has been for the last week a guest at the “Awawara” homestead, Ridge Road. Airs A. Pettigrew, of Halcombe, is a visitor to Ridge Road, and is staying with Air and A'lrs F. Youle. Mr and Airs A. H. Smith and their daughter have returned after a motor tour in the north. Aliss Leo, of Otaki, is the guest of AJiss Lcsla. A few crops of hay arc now being harvested. The continued dry weather is causing some concern. Air and Airs J. Stratum rot urn Tuesday from their wedding trip. Mr and Airs H. H. Schmidt, who spout o.oir nu.. 0.. ■ moon on a tour by ear, returned home a few days ago. ,
