MARKED INCREASE.

DOMINION TIMBER EXPORTS

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 17

A marked increase in the amount of timber exported from New Zealand is revealed in the figures for the first II months of last year made available today by the Commissioner of State Forests (Hon. E. A. Ransom). He said exports had increased by 7,000,000 feet or approximately 30 per cent. Imports bad increased by 6,000.000 feet or 60 per cent as compared with the same period last year. Despite the somewhat larger proportional increase in imports, there was a favourable export trade balance of 10,000,000 feet in I a von r of New Zealand. Exports were 30,074,000 feet, valued at £195,520. Imports included 9,000,000 feet of hardwoods which did not actually compete with New Zealand production to any extent. The production of New Zealand timber for the same period was approximately 24,000,0000 feet.
