OROUA COUNTY.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Oroua County Council met at Feilding to day. The report of the engineer was as follows : “Little work other than that of ordinary maintenance has been undertaken. The power graders have been kept in operation over the holiday period, but the unusually dry season has made it a difficult matter to maintain somo of the gravel surfaces in a satisfactory condition. 4 In the eastern riding a dangerous corner at the bottom of Ulysses Road Hill has been widened and gravelled. The temporary bridge over the Mangaone Stream at Bunnvtliorpe has been dismantled and the timber stacked. The road fence a.t the approaches to the new bridge has been re erected. In the western riding four additional culverts on Makino Road have been replaced with concrete pipes. The No. 1 crushing plant is now in operation supplying material for the preparation for the sealing of the road between Menzi-es bridge and Kimbolton Road. At both Halcombe and Ashhurst the No. 5 relief scheme has been suspended, while very few men are available for the Lethbridge Road works.” TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer reported : —Total rates outstanding previous three years, Natives 31/3/34, £753 16s Bd, Crown £6O 15s; European £9Ol 2s 6d. Total rates outstanding for three years, £1715 14s 2d ; collected, European arrears £426 11s 7d; outstanding, January 17. 1935, £1289 2s 7d. Riding accounts: Expenditure on maintenance (western riding), £1559 9s 3d ; presented for payment, £216 0s 4d. Expenditure on maintenance (eastern riding) £1264 st? Id ; presented lor payment, £135 15s Bd. Bank balance'. General account (dr.) £2890 7s 2d.
