BOWLING

POST-SECTION RINKS PLAY. THREE ROUNDS COMPLETED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. The Dominion bowling tournament was continued to-dav, when further games in the inter-section rounds of the singles and pairs championships were played, and. post-section rounds in the full rink championship were commented. The sensation of the day in the | full rink contest was the defeat of the present holders of the title, 0. Dickson. F. Redpath, H. F. Gibson, H. Wilson, of the Linwood Club, Christchurch. They won their game against M Walker (Auckland), by 22 to 8, and were beaten by Livingstone (Onehunga), 19 to 17, and by Graham (Carlton), 23 to 13. T. Boston, Dr. P. Mr>ir, H. C. Clarke, S. Jenkin, of the Carlton Club, remain undefeated m both section and post section rounds, winning all 11 successive wines. The following retain their two lives in the rinks competition: —Jenlun (Carlton). Robertson (Onehunga) Hoeking (Pukekohe), Mcß hannellHataitai) and Whittle (Grey Lynn). The onelifers are as follow: Lancaster (Callton), Graham (Carlton), BrigHtmg (Hataitai), Engebretsen Stone (St. John’s), Bremner (Best End, Auckland), Arnett (Palmerston North), Mingms (Epsom), Gee (le Awamutu). . PiTkington (Haniilton), Thomas (B a mere). 1. B !ll lv tCN and Albert), Brackenridge (Lvall Bay) and Roberts (Carlton). f n The post-section round of the nil rink championship on the greens of the Carlton Club proved a rare series of games crammed with bowlrng incident of the highest character. The tl.i round especially saw a modern I " ter l l )®' tation of the. rink game staged with splendid drawing, a wealth of dexteious pressing shots, and much driving v, lien positions were built up wrongly. Itj'as a common sight to witness ho-nl aftei bowl reach the objective indicated b> the skip ; it was not uncommon to see bowls scattered. This was particularly noticeable in the tussle between Livingstone (Onehunga) and Gee (Te Awamutu). Both skips interpreted the game in the same manner, and played a lull raime of shots with wonderful accuracy No fewer than five successive heads were scattered to the four corners ot the green before one was satisfied with the building of the bowls. COLLAPSE OF FORM. The playing surfaces were of high excellence. One noticeable feature of the post-section rounds was the complete collapse of form in some teams which had made excellent showings in the section rounds. Foi instance, in the last game of the day, Mingins (Epsom) registered a score of 9 to 4 againstJenkin (Carlton), and then collapsed. There were several other similar games. Walker (Auckland) struck form, and that sterling bowler ot past years was again seen in brilliant bowling against Gee (Te Awamutu). Although the Auckland team lost in the game, the character of the play was very high. Both sides, from the leads to the skips, gave an excellent exhibition of the game. R. Buchan (Te Aroha) met with the first loss in the championship at the hands of Bremner (B’est End, Auckland;. The second round of the post-section rounds was remarkable for the complete collapse of some of the teams which had staged great consistency of form. Carswell (Auckland) went down 25 to 5 against Adess (St. Kilda, Dunstan). Waihi was beaten by “Whittle (Grey Lynn) 29 to 6. Engebretsen (Napier) was beaten by Robertson (Onehunga) 21—9. Walker Auckland) went down to Arnott (Palmerston North) by a big margin. Lett, (Park, Masterton) was well trimmed by McWhannell (Hataitai). London (Devonport) was beaten by a big margin by Hosking (Pukekohe). Wilson (Linwood) beat Walker 22 —8. It seemed ns if the rot had set into the tournament at this stage. Most of the scores were even up to the middle of the games, and a tumble in form took place toward the closing stage. It is not often that is quite impossible for a skip to rake a game out of the fire when lying four down on the board. This circumstance presented itself to Sune (Glen Eden) in the game against Vella (Onehunga). Vella who was playing number three with "Wright as skip, drove the white when his team was two down to the ditch, and lay the shot a few inches away. Although three bowls were yet to be played, Sunde shook hands with “Wright and declared a loss. Results are as follow: FIRST ROUND. S. Jenkins (Carlton) 21 beat DunStan (Waihi) 8.
