TENNIS IN SYDNEY.

SYDNEY, Nov. 29. The feature of to-day’s play in the New South Wales tennis championships. which were continued in hot weather, was the elimination of the Australian women’s singles champion, Miss. Joan Hartigan, at the hands of the tall Queenslander, Mrs E. Wesmacott. Detailed results are as follow: Men’s singles.—Semi-finals: .J. H. Crawford beat H. Hopman, B—6, o—6, 6- 6—3; F. J. Perry (England) beat A. Quist, 6—3, 6—l, 6 —3. Women’s singles.—Semi-finals: Mrs Westmacott beat Miss Hartigan, 7 -5, 6—4: Miss D. Round (England) beat Miss N. M. Lyle, 7—5, 6—3. Men’s doubles.—Quarter-finals: E. Maier (Spain) and Hopman beat R. Menzel (Czechoslovakia) and Moon, 6—3, 6—-2, B—6 ; Kirby (South Africa) and Quist beat Dunlop and Donohoe, 6—4, 6—2, 7—5 ; Crawford and V. McGrath beat Thompson and Moore, 6—4, 6—4; 6—l; Perry and Hughes (Britain) beat Walker and Sproule, 6 —4, 6—4, 6—7, 6—4. Women’s doubles. Quarter-finals: Mesdames Westmacott and M. Molesworth beat Miss Dingle and Miss Coyne, 4—6, 6—3, 6—2 ; Misses Hartigan and L. Bickerton beat Misses Hattersley and Selwin, 6—7, 7—5, 6—l; Miss Round (England) and Mrs Hopman beat Misses Chrystal and Garlick, 6—o ; B—6; Misses E. M. Dearman and Lyle (England) meat Misses N. Chitty and M. Blick, 6—l, 6—l. The Crawford-Hopman singles was a poor match and unimpressive. Perry was in superb form. His strokes were so well concealed that he frequently left Quist standing when advancing to the net. Perry on the other hand was never out of position.
