ALL A HOAX.
GRIFFIN “MYSTERY.” MAN STILL IN WELLINGTON? WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. Who is Gerald Griffin—and where is he? Wellington Labour supporters, who know him well, say that he has never been prominent in any political movement. He is generally quiet and unassuming, except when engaged in private argument on his favourite subject —the prevention of war. He lias hotly denied being a Communist. He conducted a bookseller’s shop in Cuba Street for some time, and then joined his father in a similar business near the Wellington G.P.O. A fortnight ago he returned to Wellington on the steamer which had taken him to Australia. He then took steps to get the Labour Party to protest against his treatment. There is ample evidence from this quarter that Griffin was in Wellington on that date, and it is further believed that he is still here, but that Australian Communists are staging a clever hoax, consequent upon Griffin s iailure to overcome the immigration barrier.
