OBITUARY

MR JOHN STEVENSON. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital, on Saturday, of Mr John Stevenson, of 35 Campbell Street, after an illness of 13 weeks. Mr Stevenson, who was in his 60th year, was born at Kaiapoi, Canterbury, being a son of Mr Thomas Stevenson, an early resident of that district. In 1902 Mr Stevenson married Miss Libline, of Wellington, and the young couple returned south, where Mr Stevenson was engaged for some years on contracting work. He had, however, been a resident of Palmerston North for the past 22 years. Three months ago the health of both Mrs and Mr Stevenson necessitated their admission to hospital within a day of each other and Mrs Stevenson still lies dangerously ill in the institution. The funeral of Mr Stevenson took place at the Kelvin Grove Cemetery on Sunday, Rev. John Hubbard conducting the service. There is a family of one son and two daughters left to mourn their loss, the members being Mr John Stevenson and Mesdames G. Fisher and I. Neil, all being residents of Palmerston North. There are also a foster-son, Mr Cecil Rule, and four grandchildren.

MR A. H. HADDON. The intimation of tire death of Mr Arthur- Henry Haddon, of 16 Worcester Street, on November 9, came as a shock to a wide circle of friends, little thought having been entertained that an illness lie suffered three weeks ago would prove fatal. A son of the late Mr William Haddon, of Karori, Wellington, Mr Haddon received his education at the Terrace School in the Capita] City and, on its completion, he took up the occupation of bootmaker. It was in that capacity that he accepted a position with Messrs Hannah and Coy., Palmerston North, and it was following his arrival in this centre that he married Miss E. Charker. of Palmerston North, in 1894. In his younger days Mr Haddon was an enthusiastic volunteer, having been a member of the Palmerston North Rifles and also of the Palmerston North Guards, holding the rank of sergeant in the latter unit. He was also a former member of the Linton Rifle Club. A large number of friends attended the funeral on Sunday to pay their last respects, while the floral tributes were many and beautiful. Prior to the cortege leaving from the residence for the Palmerston North Cemetery, a short private service was conducted by Major Charker, of the Salvation Army Corps, Auckland, a brother of Mrs Haddon. At the graveside the service was conducted by Rev. H. L. Richards, of the Cuba Street Methodist Church. In addition to Mr Haddon’s widow, there are left to mourn his passing a family of three sons and two daughters—Mr W. A. Haddon, of Auckland,' and Messrs ' C. S. and L. C. Haddon, of Palmerston North, . and Mesdames C. Dawson, of AVailcino, and B. Palenski, of Palmerston North. There are also three grandchildren.
