Mrs Cyril King, of Pitzlierbert Avenue, accompanied by her small son, is spending a holiday of several weeks at Paraparaumu Beach.

Mrs M. Hedges, of Remuera, Auckland, is.visiting Palmerston North, and is the guest of her niece, Mrs Ashcroft, of Queen Street. Miss Ruth Grant, who was until recently attached to the Methodist Church’s staff in the Solomon Islands, has been, visiting Palmerston North as the guest of Rev. A. N. Scotter and Mrs Scatter.

One of the passengers on the Maunganui, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from the United States, was Mrs Walter A. Foss, of San Francisco. At the expense of the San Francisco Chronicle she is seeing New Zealand for the first time, having won a prize in a competition conducted by that newspaper. Mrs Foss won the third prize, which entitled her to steamer fare from San Francisco to Sydney and back. Mrs Foss mentioned, when interviewed that the first and second prizes in the competition were trips around the world.
