Rev. W. Lawson Marsh, of Devonport, is to be invited to accept the charge of the Columba Presbyterian Church, Oamaru. Mr It. Hatch, of Palmerston North, who has been spending a holiday in Australia, is returning b- the Monowai, which is due at Wellington today.

Sir Arnold Thieler, the prominent South African veterinarian, and Lady Thieler have sailed from Auckland en route for South Africa after an extended visit to the Dominion.

Mr Andrew William Sneddon has been appointed general manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society in succession to Mr A. C. Hollinworth, who has retired, states a Sydney message. Rev. S. Usher, of Wellington, who was the preacher at St. Andrew’s Church, last evening, was the guest of Mr and Mrs R. L. C. Aitehison for the week-end, and returned to Wellington to-day. In connection with the forthcoming visit of the Duke of Gloucester to New Zealand, Detective ; E. Barling and Constables J. H. Beaton and E. Compton of the Police Force at Palmerston North, have been detailed for special duty. Mr Harry Turner, manager of the New Zealand Fruit Board, London, was a visitor to Palmerston North at the week-end, being the guest of his brother, Mr Walter Turner, “Kanoi,” College Street. Mr Turner will return to England by the Rangitane on December 25.

Mr H. J. Lancaster, of Glen Oroua, who recently underwent an operation in a private hospital, has recovered sufficiently to return to his home. His many friends will be pleased to see him again taking an active part in the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association.

The death occurred at his residence, at Otaki Beach, on Saturday, of Mr John Perry Lethbridge, in his 80th year. Mr Lethbridge was a member of a family well-known in the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts, every member being prominent in land development in these parts. Believed to be the oldest living person horn in Wellington, Mr John P. Beachen on Thursday celebrated his 91st birthday at Waipukurau, where he is living in retirement. Mr Beachen vividly remembers the big earthquake of 1555 and also recalls his participation in the Maori Wars in the ’sixties.

The death of Mr William Brack Levi a nd, managing director of the well-known timber company, has occurred at Auckland. Bern in Wigan, Lancashire, in 1853, Air Leyland had an adventurous career beiore coming to New Zealand in i 879, and rising to become a leading figure in the timber industry. Mr J. A. J. Hunter, who lias been appointed Assistant-Postmaster-Gen-eral in the Coalition Government which lias now been formed in the Australian Commonwealth, is a younger brother of Professor S. F. Hunter, of Knox College. Since 1920 he has represented Maranoa, a pastoral constituency of 250,000 square miles in the south-west corner of Queensland, and for most' of that time was whip and secretary of the Federal Country Party.

Rev. Father T. Macarthy, S.M., Wellington, Superior of the Marist Missioners, has left Wellington for Melbourne, where he will participate in the Eucharistic Congress. After the congress, Father Macarthy will visit Norfolk Island, where he will conduct a mission before returning to the Dominion. This year Father Macarthv completes his twenty-fifth year of mission work in New Zealand and Australia, and in a message of congratulation to him from Rome, the Superior-General of the Alarist Fathers said that he desired Father Macarthy to take a much-needed holiday in Australia.
