PAHIATUA, Nov. 10. There was a capacity audience at die Presbyterian Sunday school room last evening, when the two-day drama icstival of die Bush-Wairarapa Federation ot W omen’s Institutes was opened. Mrs J. VC. Crewe, president of the federation, welcomed those present. One of the aims of the institute movement, she said, ivas to bring happiness to every* country woman and the drama was encouraged to enable them to forget their troubles by participating in the presentation of little pays. Miss Maddovcr, president of the bouthern Wellington Federation, was in attendance. The adjudicator was Mrs S. Bristow, ot Palmerston North, who gave very hclpiul criticisms after the presentation of cac.i play and offered suggestions for improvement. At the conclusion she rehearsed with the performers part of the Sluikesperean play, “The Merchant of Venice” (Act 1, scene 1) put on bv the Makomako Women’s Institute members. The repeat performance was very helpful to the performers. lhe sta°'o manager was Mr H. K. Ogg assisted by the husbands of country members. The door-keepers were members of the Pahintua Women’s Institute. Nine more plays were presented to-day. while thcic was glee singing and folk dancing in the Foresters’ Hall this evening. Miss J. Hume, of Palmerston North, who is adjudicator at the folk dancing at the Women’s Institute Festival, is the guest of Mrs A. East. Mr J. Bree. of Pahiatua. is spending a holiday in Christchurch. Air L. Kay. who has been resident of Kkclatahuna for a number of years, is going io Palmerston North to live.
