PRESENTATION OF AWARDS.
FIRE BRIGADE SERVICE,
Awards for long service, aggregating 143 years for eleven members, were presented by the Mayor, who is chairman of the Palmerston North Fire Board, at the final dance for the season held by tbe Fire Brigade on Friday. Mr Mansford eulogised the work of the men both as brigadesmen and . in general community service, stating that the city could rest confident in their ability to cope with any conflagration or emergency. He congratulated the brigade on its efficiency, and presented the following awards:—■ Gold bars. —Superintendent YV. H. Barnard (41 years’ service) and Fireman L. Lewis (33 years’ service). Silver bars.—Firemen C. White (19 years), A. Toon (11 years), N. Edgar (9 years), A. Nesbit (7 years), F. Nesbit (7 years). Five-year medal.-—Firemen J. McSweeney and S'. Nicliools. Three-year certificate.—Firemen F. Powell and V. Chamberlain.
