PETER PAN WINS GLOUCESTER CUP. NIGHTLY DISAPPOINTS. MELBOURNE, Nov. 11. The weather was fine and there was an excellent attendance, including the Duke of Gloucester, for the fourth and final day of the V.R.C. Cup meeting. Polygonum had his first success in 2| years in the Windsor Hurdles. Peter Pan won the Duke of Gloucester Cup with something in hand. He was last early in the race. Broad Arrow fought gamely, but was no match for the winner. Hyperion ran a fair race, hut Nightly was disappointing. Peter Pan in five starts has registered five wins at Flemington. and his stake winnings now total £27.585 10s. He will probably return to Randwick to race in the Gloucester Plato on November 22. Svlvandale compensated for his narrow Derby defeat in the Batman Stakes. Barak improved on Thursday’s form. Aureus led always in the Flemington Stakes. The New Zealander Dcbham ■was rapidly overhauling him at the post. Whcrnside and Night Club ran poor races. The winner cost 350 guineas as a yearling. L’Elite led practically all the way in the Linlithgow Stakes, but tired and was no match for Closing Time in the last furlong, the last-named displaying improved stamina. Sweet Trilby led always in the Ottawa Stakes and beat the fast finishing Sally Instep. Fulojoy was never dangerous There was an exciting finish in the Final Handicap. Upoko Ariki defeated Nellie’s Tip in the last few strides. Fie won a double for trainer J. T. Jamieson and jockey E. Bartle. Upoko Ariki has had three wins in his last four starts. A protest lodged against Upoko Ariki was dismissed.

Tho stewards inquired into Polygonum’s form to-day compared with his running in the Ascot Hurdle on November 1, but adjourned the investigation until 3 p.m. on Monday. Chatham is suffering from grave, trouble in the joints of tho off foreleg which may end his career. IF. Badger and E. Bartle were suspended for one month for alleged careless riding in the Batman Stakes and the Final Handicap respectively. Results: —

A length and a quarter; three-quarters of a length. Havana was fourth. Time, 1.44. FLEMINGTON STAKES HANDICAP, of £750; for two-year-old colts and geldings. Five furlongs.—Aureus, 7.13 (A. Knox) 1; Debham, 7.13, 2; Young Idea, 7.13, 3. Eleven started. Three-quarters of a length; half a length. Carnarvon was fourth. Time, 1.3 J. Debham is Mr W. Higgins’s bay colt by Lackham from Deborah, trained by J. McLaughlin. K. Yoitre rode the second horse.
