WHALING ADVENTURE.
MR J. PERANO INJURED

A Tory Channel whaling .party harpooned a huge whale from the speed launch Cachelot, and the mamal sounded but came up under the launch throwing the craft high in the air and starting a couple of planks, while the shock exploded a spare bomb in the launch.
J osepli Peranoj leader of the party, who was operating the harpoon gun right over the bomb, was severely injured, a large part of his thigh and back muscles being torn away. The harpoon line was hurriedly severed and the launch, in a sinking condition, made full speed for the beach, which was reached in the nick of time. Perano was removed to the Picton Hospital, where lie was operated on. His condition is serious, but not grave. The other occupants of' the launch aro believed to have sustained minor injuries, but details are meagre.
