Mr H. G. Bryant, of Manakau, was the victim of an unfortunate accident this week, being tlrrown from'his horse and sustaining a broken arm. . His Honour Mr Justice Blair, who has been presiding over the quarterly session of the Supreme Court at Palmerston North, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon. Constable J. H. Beaton, of the Police Force at Palmerston North, lias been advised that he was successful in passing the literary section of the subinspectors’ examination which was conducted in September last. Constable Beaton was the only local candidate in the examination.
Well-known in marine circles, Captain Arthur Jacques Blackmore died at Wellington on Thursday night. Born at Nelson in 1862, he followed the call of the sea at an early age, and by the time he joined the Wellington Harbour Board staff in November, 1904, he had risen to the position of master mariner, and was a well-known figure in the coastal trade.
Major L. McGaffin, of Palmerston North, who is an active member of the Manawatu Aero Club, has been successful in qualifying for a B commercial pilot’s license. Major McGaffin first took up flying in Hastings with the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club, and when he was transferred to Palmerston North he continued his activities with the Manawatu Aero Club, being one of the foremost pilots of the club, and it was his efforts that contributed , greatly to his club’s success at the last official North and South Island pageants, when ho annexed 21 of the total 36 points gained by Manawatu. This is the first club-trained pilot’s B license to come to the Manawatu.
