TOKOMARU
(From Our Own Correspondent.) - TOKOMAUU, Nov. 9.
The Miniature ltiflo Club held their annual danqo in the hall recently when the opportunity was taken by Mr G. Williams to present the cups and trophies. The A grade cup was won outright by Mr J. Hanson of Opiki, who also won a trophy. Mr Cooksley (Opiki) won the B cup and also a cup for the most improved shooter during the year. Mr A. Cook won the handicap trophy. Mr Williams, on behalf of the club, presented the secretary (Mr H. Moody) with a fountain pen and spoke of the good work he had done during the year. The B cup was kindly donated by Mr A. Moody and a trophy donated by Mr It. Scanlon. Lucky door numbers were won by Mrs J.' Hayes and Mr S. Free and a Monte Carlo dance by Miss K. Johnston and Mr S. Free. Music was supplied by an orchestra and the duties of M.C. wore carried out by Mr A. Williams.
Owing to sickness, there was a small attendance at the monthly meeting of the Tokomaru Women’s Institute on Wednesday afternoon. The president (Mrs McGill) expressed the institute’s sympathy with those absent through sickness. A report of the Northern Wellington Federation council held at Levin was read by Mrs Jamieson. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs W. Irwin, of Opiki, on bags and slippers made from inner motor tubes. Mrs Irwin was accorded a vote of thanks. The points competition for the four prettiest paper hats was won by Mrs C Voss, with Mrs A. Burt second, and Mrs H. Parr third. The points competition for the December meeting is for something made from one yard of 36in cretonne. The hostesses for the afternoon wore Misses M. Schwass and E. Adams and Mrs A. Boote.
