DECLARATION OF POLL.

The first declaration of the position of the queen candidates was made this morning, resulting as follows: — City Band Queen (Miss Winiata) 1 Garrison Band Queen (Miss Beryl Oakley) 2 Pipe Band Queen (Miss June Scott) ... 3 At twelve o’clock the flags were broken from the band rotunda in the Square in the following order: Blue and red; blue and gold; Scottish standard. For the first two weeks of the carnival declarations will be made on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and for the concluding week a daily declaration will bo made. Thus has commenced the final three weeks of concentrated effort in the battle for the position of Queen of the carnival. PIPE BAND QUEEN.

The energetic committee of the Pipe Band Queen are staging two interesting programmes on Wednesday, the 14th, and Wednesday, the 21st, respectively. On the 14th, a boxing tournament haa been arranged in Havill’s Gymnasium. Eighteen excellent bouts will be staged. The ad mission charges are particularly reasonable for the programme that has been arranged by the Palmerston North Boxing Association, and a record attendance is, therefore, assured. On Wednesday, the 21st, the Scottish ' Society arc holding a special Ingleside, in tho form of a world tour on the “S.S. Ingleside.” All passengers will be taken for a tour round the world, and different dances will be staged at the various ports of call, while a number of novelties will be introduced.
