A VISIT UNLIKELY

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night Wanganui submitted a remit for further negotiations with Australia, and in support the benefit of such tours to cricket in New Zealand was argued. The remit also maintained that the New Zealand council should try to obtain Australian State teams.

Mr A. T. Donnelly said negotiations with the Australian Board of Control for a team this season were continuing, but a visit was unlikely. The latest reply from the Board of Control stated that the time had arrived when in the interest of Australian cricket it was necessary to concentrate on home games. It was necessary to arouse public interest in the Sheffield Shield games, which would he less attractive if the best players were away on tour. Consequently, a team Could not very well leave before the end of February, and even then that would interfere with club matches. The board also stated that under the international rules New Zealand had no authority to negotiate with the State associations or with the Melbourne Cricket Club.

Mr Donnelly added that the council was still trying to induce the- board to change its decision. As for the suggestion of sending a porsonal representative, it had to he remembered that the council had t maintained contact. It had a good representative already in Australia and was still in communication. The Wanganui motion would not help. Put to the vote the motion was lost.
