ASSETS' AND LIABILITIES. FURTHER DECREASE IN GOLD WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. The fourteenth weekly statement of the assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, November 5, is as follows:

Proportion of reserve (No. 8 less No. 6) to notes and other demand liabilities, 99.51 per cent., compared with 99.42 per cent, on October 29.

The principal change this week is a further reduction of £200,000 in the bank’s holding of gold, which now stands at £3,001,727. This represents a total reduction since September 24 of £1,350,000, due to shipments of gold overseas. Sterling exchange has increased by £387,800 to £23,009,989, this accretion being largely accounted for by the disposal of gold. Subsidiary coin at £101,865 shows a decrease of £14,021. Investments have further increased by £4359 and now stand at £1,540,832. Other assets at £21,536 15s show a decrease of £15,575 15s.

On the liabilities side, notes issued stand at £8,958,019 10s, an increase on the week of £79,732. Government deposits show a further increase of £223,271 9s and are now at the high level of £5,243,384 16s sd. Trading bank deposits have decreased by £138,585 to £12,538,180, while other demand liabilities are practically unchanged. Other liabilities at £33,706 show a decrease of £1866. The statement balances at £28.275.951 Is 7d, an increase of £162,562 16s sd.
