CHARGES AGAINST SEAMAN
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 7
Brandishing a knife at a. group of men and announcing that lie would “go for anybody” who came near, Michael Walsh, a seaman, aged 44, attracted the attention of a traffic inspector, Mr Kay. on duty nearby. Mr Kay disarmed Walsh, who was then taken to the police station. Walsh today appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., charged, with behaving in a threatening manner in Moorhouse Avenue, and with carrying a dangerous weapon, a slieath knife, without lawful purpose. Pleading guilty to both charges, Walsh said that a man tripped him and he took the knife out to frighten him away.
The Magistrate, in ordering Walsh to crime up for sentence if called upon within three months on the first charge, praised the conduct of Inspector Kay. “It was praiseworthy in every respect,” he said. “The inspector did his duty as a citizen.”
