(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Nov. 7. Shannon cricketers were defeated in their game against Weraroa, at Levin, last Sat- : urday in the Horowhenua cricket chani]>ionshii). Weraroa batted first, making 127 (ltoe 56, Wallace 24, Bennett 20). Shannon made 60 (Roach 24, Porter 10). The monthly meeting of the Shannon W.D.F.U. was held with Mrs Best in the chair. Routine business was discussed and then members of the Farmers’ Union joined the meeting. A strong committee was formed to further the interests of the farmers’ queen in the forthcoming carnival for school funds. Supper was served by Mcsdames -Murray and Guerin. Mi' A. Roberts, of Wellington, is relieving Mr T. F. Thurston, of the Bank of New Zealand, who is on furlough. Mrs N. Shepperd, of Wellington, is staying ■ with Mrs B. Curran, Sheehan Street.
