CHANNEL CROSSED BY “HYDROSPHERE.”

Charles Flourens, of Paris, recently crossed the Channel from Gris Nez to Dover by means of what he calls a “hydrosphere.” This consists of a rubber ball inflated to about a foot in diameter, through which runs a paddle sft. long. With this device he made the crossing in lOhrs. 15min., which beats the swimming record made by Georges Michel in 1926 by 50min. Flourens had previously made three unsuccessful attempts to cross the Channel with the “hydrosphere.”
