The monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was held last evening, and was presided over by Mr W, K, McKenzie. The Education Board advised the committee of the set-back in the grading of the secondary department and of its intention to determine one of the appointments at the end of January. It was decided to place on record the committee's appreciation of the efforts of the teaching staff and others in connection with tho recent successful school ball. Tho board is to be asked to proceed at the earliest possible dato with the laying down of tennis courts on the new playing area. Accounis amounting to £24 6s 9d were passed for payment. Messrs Perreau and Smith wero appointed visitors for tho month. On Friday afternoon the committee members of tho Foxton Women’s Institute met at the residence of Mrs Richardson, Putter Street. In tho unavoidable absence of Airs E. Titcombo (president), Airs F. Proctor (vice-president) took the chair and on behalf of the committee members took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Misses Stevenson who are leaving the district. She called on them to accept small tokens of appreciation, a cake basket and a nut bowl, together with two beautiful bouquets of roees and maidenhair fern. A pleasant ceremony took place on Sunday morning at the conclusion of the Sunday school, when Tommy Thomson, a pupil, on behalf of the teachers and his fellow pupils, called on Miss M. Stevenson to accept a small token of affection and esteem. Last evening A. Walls and Trueman (skip) played a challenge match for the Haydock Pins with the holders, Francis and Heppner ' (skip), who won by 25 points to 22. The Young Maori Party and Druids cricket teams met on Victoria Park on Saturday in a two day match. Y.M.P. declared their innings at 275 for two wickets and Druids knocked up 47 runs for five wickets before play was terminated for the day.
