“THE FAKE.”

The Palmerston North Operatic and Dramatic Society opens a three nights’ season at the Opera House on Thursday next, the 15th instant, with Frederick Lonsdale's striking three-act drama "The lake.” The cast includes several amateurs well and favourably known to the Palmerston North public: Messrs M. 11. Drain (Geoffrey Sands), C. N. itabone (Edward Stanton, M.P.), N. Elnson (Hon. Gerrard Pillick), E. G. Seeker (Clifford Hope), T. M. N. Rodgers (Sir Thos Moorgate, M.D.), E. G. Spraggon (Hosketh Pointer) and H. Driver. Tlie feminine members of the cast are Aliss Gwen Gibbs (Mrs Ilesketh Pointer!, Miss Betty Alcßuo (Mavis Stanton), Airs D. J. Davies (Mrs Stanton), Aliss B. Ross, and Aliss B. Rodgers. Tlie play concerns tlie marriage of Aluvis Stanton with Hon. G. Pillick and the subsequent unhappiness caused by his drug habits. The elforts of Clifford Hope and Geoffrey Sands to release Alavis from her bondage are cleverly developed and the method of her release is well concealed up to the end of act 11. There are some stirring dramatic scenes during which the audience is specially requested to maintain silence. The presentation, which has been in production for some time under Mr Fred. Cousins, is one of the finest dramas ever p[ av ed in New Zealand. Playgoers will therefore bo well advised to reserve early. The box plans open at the Central Bookin- Office on the 13th instant (lion, members of tho society may book on November 12).
