STRUCK A POLE.
MOTOR LORRY SAVED.
UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
HAWERA, Nov. 7
A broken bone in the foot was sustained by Hector Heaven, a Hawera resident, in unusual circumstances yesterday evening. Mr Heaven was returning to Hawera with other workers on the back of a lorry, which, to gain clearance while descending the Manawapou Hill, moved to the left, and struck a telegraph pole a glancing blow. Mr Heaven’s right foot was caught, and a small bone broken. Had the lorry not hit the post, it might have gone.over a steep bank. By a strange coincidence . MiHeaven’s father-in-law, Mr W. Leppard, sustained minor head injuries and bruises a few days ago, when a lorry he was driving at Manaia capsized over a bank at tho gravel pit.
