(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI. Sept. 10.
The death has occurred of Mrs Iluff, wife of Mr J. Huff, captain of the Otaki Junior Foutball Club. She was a daughter of Mr and Sirs ‘lCehu Hakaraia, and had been in indifferent health for the past three months, Mrs Iluff was a prominent hockey player. . The social held at the Otaki Railway Theatre was as enjoyable as its predecessors. The attendance was again large. Miss Henderson (Dannevirke) played an extra, liuchrc winners were: —Mrs Douglas and Mr W. Cootes (first), Mrs 0. Cooksley and Mr R. Thompson (second). Between forty and fifty hikers visited Manakau on Saturday and after a pleasant
outing journeyed to Otaki, thence by train to Wellington. In the cycle road race .on .Saturday, Otaki to Paraparaurnu and back, Coulter proved the winner, Webipeibana being second and Miles third. T. George secured fastest time. The Rahui suppliers have again generously started donating milk to the children attending the Otaki State School. The milk, previously given, wac rich in quality, and greatly appreciated by the children, many of whom gained grpat benefit therefrom. Some 3i to 4 gallons will again be supplied daily. At a meeting of the committee in connection with the Otaki Boxing Day sports correspondence was read from the Otaki Maori Racing Club agreeing to allow tile us© of the course and ground on the.same conditions as last year. Mr G. Vickers wrote offering a silver teapot for competition for the open hurdle competitions.
