(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Aug. 3.

Arbor Day was celebrated at Parewanui School, where a good number of local residents gathered to assist in tree-planting. Shelter trees were donated by Messrs Dalrymple and Montgomerie, hedge trees by Dr Wall, and shrubs by Messrs Benefield, Klatt and Hart. The morning lessons dealt with accomplishments in the nature of afforestation and sheltering, while the value of environment resulting from the planting of native and other flowering shrubs vhi3 also stressed. Tree planting began after the morning recess, and afternoon tea, served by the ladies, proved a welcome break in the festivities.

Badminton has taken on here, and weekly practices are well attended. Footballers and supporters of the game in this district have subscribed for a challenge cup to commemorate the work dono for Rugby in Rangitikei by the late Mr James Smillie. Known as the Smillie Cup, it will be played for annually by Rangitikei and Te Kawaa senior representatives.

Mr W. A. Doughty, who recently met with an accident, was woll enough to return home yesterday, and is making an excellent recovery from serious head injuries.
