A. AND P. ASSOCIATION SHOW.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,— Kindly allow me a space m your columns for a few words concerning our latest winter exhibition, there has already been a discussion on the merits and attractions of the Women s Institute courts. As one ) v ( 10 sa "i and appreciated this exhibition oi patience and artistry, speaking candidly, I consider it to have been the one and only bright spot of the Show. The fact that it was shown in conjunction with the Arts Society s exhibition did not in any way. depreciate the attractiveness of the work. Those connected with art in this district, including Mr Billens, should be grateful to the institutes as the means of attracting such a number of visitors. The extra charge to this hall is just another of those little ‘moves apparently considered by our A. and P. Association to be progressive. However, an abler pen than mine has discussed this subject. Again, for the first three days a charge of Is was made for the grandstand, but on Saturday this was increased to two shillings. More progress? If the A. and P. Association consider they are justified in that action then some of us have been labouring under a misapprehension. I can quite understand the feeling of pride in being able to present to the public an exhibition of rough-riding such as was seen in the oval on the final day, but the operations should have been carried out more expeditiously. This is 1934 and times are hard. The public expect something for their money. If the A. and P. Association do not wish to die a natural death they will have to get out of the old rut and give us something new. The old “die-hards” have lost their initiative. Move with the times and let those of the present generation exploit their ideas. Conservatism and progress have ceased to go hand in 'hand. In conclusion, one cannot but remember the words, “By their deeds shall we know them.”—l am, etc., B. C. PRATT. Longburn, 16/6/34.
