STRIKES IN AMERICA.

NATION-WIDE WAVE. NEW. YORK, May 23. The strike wave is rapidly approaching an all-time peak, accompanied by unparalleled violence. Throughout the nation 15 are dead as the result of battles between pickets and police, and hundreds have been wounded.

The position reached a climax tonight with the ordering of State troops into Toledo, where a general strike threatens in sympathy with 2000 striking automobile workers. The striking longshoremen and seamen are virtually paralysing shipping in the Gtulf and at Pacific Coast ports, while the southern ore mine strikers are engaged in almost daily clashes with strike-breakers and the authorities.

The steelworkers are preparing to strike in the middle of June, and many other strikes are threatening.

The paramount demands are for union recognition and higher wages.
