THE BICKERTON CASE.

COMMENT IN CHRISTCHURCH. Mr W. M. Bickerton’s case in Japan has had one picturesque exaggeration added to it, in a mote to the effect that in his “unhappy youth” he had four step-mothers in Christchurch, says the Christchurch Star. This figure must be reduced, to two, and the “unhappy youth” must be discounted. His mother died when lie was a small boy, and his father married again. The second wife divorced him, and lie married a third time. His third wife died, and he married again. But young Bickerton may be said to have been under the care of only two stepmothers, for lie lias not lived at home with his present step-mother, although he has met her.
