FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

OROUA LODGE OF DRUIDS. At the quarterly meeting of ths Oroua Lodge of Druids, held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba Street, on Tuesday evening, A.D. Sis. B. Lennox presided over a large attendance. Two candidates were proposed for membership and three young ladies and one young man were initiated into the ancient rites of Druidism. A letter was received from the Grand Secretary and also copies of the new ritual book. A hearty vote of congratulation was extended to P.A. Bro. .Gilmore and his wife on the arrival of a son and heir. The nomination and election of officers took place, P.A. Bro. Hughes and Bro. Beattie, of Acorn Lodge, acting as scrutineers. The various lodge offices rvere keenly contested and the following -were declared elected;—A.D., Bro. Buchanan; V.A., Bro. Paris; Sec., Bro. Mewett; treasurer, Bro. Gilmore; J.P.A., Sis. B. Lennox; 1.G., Sis. Lowndes; 0.G., Bro. McKenzie; A.B.’s, Sis. Buchanan and Bro. H. L. Taylor; V.A.B.’s, Sis. Lampard and ,-Bro. Holroyd ; M.Sec., Bro. Lowndes; pianixte, Sis. Buchanan W.; M.C., P.A. Bro. Ure. A vote of thanks was accorded the scrutineers, and Sis._ Wilson for having filled the position of pianiste for so long and a record of her service is to be made. Next lodge night being that for th® installation of officers, it was decided to hold a dance at the conclusion of business and invitations are being sent to several Druid Lodges to attend. After the closing of the lodge supper was served bv the sisters.
