DEFENCE OF LONDON.
SUPER AEROPLANE’S TESTS. At the Roval Air Force testing station, Martlesham Heath, the trials have begun of the Hawker Super Fury —a single-seater interceptor, designed for the defence of London. The Fury, which formerly had a speed of 250 miles an hour, has been completely redesigned. It is hoped that its speed will be considerably increased. The 550 horse-power Rolls Royce Kestrel engine has been converted for steam-cooling, thereby lightening the aeroplane’s load by eliminating the cumbersome radiator. The changes help to streamline the machine, reducing wind resistance, while the chances of a forced landing, due to a bullet through the condenser, which replaces the radiator, are remote.
