WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Gilt-edged securities were very firm in the Wellington stock and share market yesterday. Government loans showed a further hardening tendency, with marked reticence on the part of holders. The 4 per cent stock, 1946, was sold late on Wednesday at £lO4 10s, and the only sellers quoting yesterday asked £lO5 for the 4 per cent bonds, 1946. Banks were quiet, but steady. Commercial of Sydney were reported sold at £lB and E.S. and A. Bank were done late on Wednesday at £5 3s 6d. Buyers eased to 50s Id for Now Zealands, but sellers moved up to 50s 9d. Union of Austialia were easier at £9 19s, sellers asking £lO 2s. In the financial and pastoral section, Abraham and Williams preference made, an advance of 2s to 80s, the ordinary standing at 48s, with no sellers showing. Wellington Gas eased to 36s lOd without response. Gear Meat were firm at 27s Id. The other sections were rather quiet. N.Z. Breweries were slightly easier on sales at 41s 8d and 41s 9d, but Staples sold firmly at 28s. Colonial Sugar dropped back to £64, following payment of the usual half-yearly distribution. There was a slightly better turnover of mining shares. Brian Borus, now Is paid, were traded at 2s to 2s 0 3-4 d. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS. The latest buying and selling quotations recorded yesterday on the Wellington Stock Exchange were as follow: —
