(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, May 2. Vital statistics for Otaki for April were: Births 12, deaths nil, marriage licenses issued 4. Mr Witchell, of the Horowhenua Hockey Association, has received word that the Australian hockey players will play at Otaki provided a guarantee of £35 is found. An effort is likely to be made to secure the necessary money. At a meeting of the Otaki Bowling Club it was decided that the green be given immediate attention. Winners of trophies were Messrs Noble, Nicolson, Booth (Satherley trophies), Messrs Warnock and Twist (Nicolson Stars). Mr and Mrs Alfred King, of Carterton, are in Otaki on holiday. At a meeting of referees of the Horowhenua district the rules were well discussed, after which reports on Saturday’s matches were handed in. It was reported that most of the matches had proved good, clean games, although one player had been reported for allegedly persistent tripping. Another was reported for alleged fighting. P.unahou and Otaki lead.; for the football championship (seniors) arid Hui Mai and Kuku (juniors). Otaki have scored 71 points to date and Punahou 46. Hui Mai have scored -36 and Kuku 15. Three teams in the junior division have scored 36 points each, and one 35. - There were eleven days of rain in Otaki during April, with a total fall of 2.29 inches. The heaviest daily fall was .79 -in, which occurred on the 23rd. A number of Otaki young men left yesterday for the Opepe camp, near Rotorua, for tree-planting purposes. A further contingent will leave next week. Miss Breen, of Mauriceville, has been appointed a teacher at the Otaki State School.
