THE ENGLISH DERBY.
BLUE RIBBON OF TURF. There is no race that has a greater glamour than tho English Derby—which this year will be run on Juno 6 —or one of moro importance throughout the world, for success of a colt over its mile and a half course is tho hallmark which ensures him liberal patronage when he is eventually retired to tho stud. Of those that have won tho bluo ribbon during tho last 10 years, and have retired to the paddock, perhaps the most outstanding from tho breeding point of view is Manna, who won the classic in 1925, and was then sent to the stud. Since then he has sired winners of stakes, and his son, Colombo, is now favourite for the event. Colombo’s credentials for the position lie holds are excellent, for as a two-year-old he was unbeaten, winning seven races and £17,130 in stakes. Among his victories wore those in tho Ascot New Stakes, tho Sandown Park National Breeders’ Produce Stakes, and his last race of the season, the Imperial Produce Stakes, and ho has now been credited with, a scquenco of three as a throe-year-old. Colombo is owned by Lord Glanelv, for whom success in the Derby would be no new experience, for he had his colours carried to victory in 1919 by Grand Parade.
