DIRECTOR OF FIELDS DIVISION.

MR R. B. TENNENT APPOINTED. Mr R. B. Tennent, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture for Otago and Southland, has Been appointed Director of the Fields Division in succession to Mr J. W. Deem, who recently retired on superannuation. Mr Tennent, who claims Scotland as Ills birthplace, came to the Dominion from Australia, w r here for some 13 years he had been in the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, in 1920. He was appointed to the Dunedin office, being in charge of the Fields Division operating in Otago and Southland. In 1926 he was sent to the United States by the Government to study specific agricultural problems, particularly irrigation, on which subject he is an expert, and subsequently he visited Australia on a similar mission. The new director is expected to arrive in Wellington to-morrow and it is presumed that he will also come on to Palmerston North on a visit of inspection prior to bidding farewell to' the south.
