An enjoyable surprise gift afternoon organised by ladies ot the district was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Searancke last Friday in honour of the approaching marriage of their only daughter Linda. The presence of a largo circle of friends confirmed the very high esteem in which she is held by ail sections of the community throughout the_ surrounding district, and was made manifest by th* many valuable gifts and presents offered. Following the presentation and the opening of the many parcels of useful gift*, the honoured guest ot the afternoon Mis* Searancke, suitably responded by thanking and expressing her sincere gratelulnea* to her generous and thoughtful hostesse* and friends. Vocal items by ■ Mis* Berkahn and several competitions passed the time pleasantly, the winners being Mrs K. Wilton (memory' competition) and Mrs G. Lamont (jumbled competition) respectively. A delightful afternoon tea served by the future brides many well-wishers concluded a most pleasant time. The local Ping Pong and Winter Sport* Club opened its seasonal activities last Wednesday evening when there was * large attendance ot members.
