Mrs G. E. Littlewood, of Sydney, is on a holiday visit to Palmerston North, and is staying with her sister, Mrs N. Olsen, of Thompson Street. Mrs L. J. Wild, of Feilding, is spending a holiday in the Sounds district. Viscount and Viscountess Long will return to England by the Rangitane, which leaves Wellington on Friday. Miss Ruth Billens, of Palmerston North, left for Christchurch yesterday to enter the Karitane Hospital for training. Colonel Dwight Davis, donor of the Davis Cup, has announced the engagement of his daughter Alice to Mr Roger Matins, second secretary at the British Embassy at Washington. An enjoyable kitchen afternoon was given to Sister E. Thompson in view of her approaching marriage, by the nursing staff of the Palmerston IS orth Hospital at the home of Mrs G. T. Griggs, Queen Street, yesterday. Competitions were enjoyed, and afternoon tea and the opening of the gifts completed a happy afternoon. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand committee of the Pan Pacific Women’s Association in Wellington, the Dominion president (Mrs 1. E. Taylor) urged that the delegates to the conference in August should be well equipped to take their share in the round table discussions. Only four names had been submitted as vt. ~ gates, and these were approved. Miss Andrews, the secretary of the New Zealand Association, was appointed the leader of the delegation. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. A large number of intimate friends and well-wishers gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Stenberg, Manapouri Orescent, on Saturday evening, to convey congratulations and best wishes to Hilda, their third daughter, on the attainment of her majority. A pleasant time was spent in singing hymns games, ets., while Miss Stenberg. herself repeated from memory a portion of Scripture, for which she has much aptitude. After supper had. been paitaken of she was made the recipient of soveral useful presents from wellwishers.
