SEASON’S FINAL MATCH. MASSEY COLLEGE~WIN JUNIOR B GRADE. In tlie final match of the season in competitions conducted by the Manawatu Cricket Association, Massey College on Saturday afternoon defeated Y.M.C.A. B, on the first innings, thus taking the junior B grade championship honours. Although the Y.M.C.A. team had suffered only two losses to the College team’s three, the latter made up the points leeway by taking six four-point wins as against the other team’s three clear-cut victories. In the course of the season the teams met on three occasions and in all a draw was the result. College had first use of the wicket, the match being played on No. 1 wicket. When 233 had been made for the loss of nine wickets, College declared (Blythe 52, Longwill 46, Corkill 21, Campbell 29, Johnson 34). The Y.M.C.A. team took the batting crease shortly before 5 p.m. and the last wicket fell within a few minutes of the scheduled end of tlio day at 6.20 p.m. Bowling for College, Beggs gained an average of five for 47, and at one stage took three wickets with four balls. Two were taken at the end of one over, in three balls, no runs being scored off the intervening delivery, and the other wicket with the first ball from his next over. The Y.M.C.A. total reached 113 (Bowles 29, Marshall 31, McNeile 12, Rumble 14). When there was but an hour’s playing time left Y.M.C.A., who were one man short, had made 70. The grade cricket premiership was won by Mosman with 70 points. Marrickville was runner-up with 65, and Randwick third with 60. Best batting averages were : —Bill (Waverley), 525 runs, at an average of 65.62; Wallace (Marrickville), 546, at an average of 45.5; and Leadbeater (Cumberland), 662, at an average of 44.13.
