MANCHESTER UNITY ODDFELLOWS. The position of the Loyal Manawatu Juvenile Lodge is a stnki.ng example of what can be accomplished by a. committee of willing workers. On April 7, 1933, the first installation of officers of the Juvenile Lodge took place, and was voted a great success by all who had the privilege of being present. The first anniversary was celebrated on Friday, April G, when the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba. Street, was crowded with the young folk, their parents and members of adult lodges. The lodge was opened at 2 p.m., Bro. Miinro, N.G. presiding. Seven new members were initiated, and after routine business had been dealt with the parents of the juvenile members were admitted to a public jubilee installation of the officers.

The installation of the following officers was carried out in a capable manner by L.M. Sister L. McMillan: 1.P.N.G., Bro. H. Wilson; N.G., Sister S. Jane; R.S., Sister N. Summers; L.S., Bro P Clark; V.G., Sister B. Bruce; It.S. Bro. W. Cadwallader; L.S., Bro. J. Jackson; S.C., Sister C. Jane; J.C., Sister A. Johnson; G., Sister J. Luks; E.S., Bro. F. Clark; S.W., Bro. D. Price; J.W.. Bro. A. Rodgers. The superintendent (Bro. G. Farrar) extended a. cordial welcome to the visiting members from Dannevirke and Woodville, and also expressed pleasure at the attendance of so large a number of the parents. The supervising committee were exerting their best endeavours to educate the juvenile members to enable them to carry out the duties of the various offices to which they were from time to time elected. D.D.G.M., Bro. J. Mackie (Hawke’s Bay) addressed the newly installed officers congratulating them upon their appointment, and giving them sound advice in respect to their actions in regard to lodge affairs. The minor officers were complimented by Bro. H. Sharman, who referred to the progress the lodge was making, and the efficient manner m which they weie cailying out their duties. Bro. Stubbs (Dannevirke) congratulated the members upon the interest they were evincing in the lodge by their attendance and interest in its working. At the official opening of the lodge last year the ceremony was conducted bv. Bro. H. M. Quigley, G.M., of the New Zealand Branch, and to commemorate the occasion that officer decided to present the lodge with a nieiit board. At the meeting on Friday evening Bro. Stubbs presented the board on behalf of Bro. Quigley (who was unavoidably absent), and said he trusted the officers would attend to their duties so as to obtain the vote of the lodge to have their names placed on the board as tliey r completed the period of their office. Director Bro. N. Bruce presented Past Officers’ collars to Sister L. McMillan and Bro. Munro, and referred to the pleasure the committee had experienced at the capable way in whicn these officers had fulfilled their positions. He trusted they would continue to evince as keen an interest in the working of the lodge. The Sweetman Cup, which had been won by Bro. Jane for introducing the most members for the first half-year

of the lodge, had been won for the second term by the same member with a total of ten new members for the half-year. In presenting the cup to the winner, Bro. Farrar remarked that should Bro. Jane ba successful in the ensuing half-year then the cup would become his property. Whilst congratulating the member upon his achievement the speaker advised the other members to put forth their best endeavours to enable the cup to be retained for future competitions. Several speakers made reference to the enjoyment all had experienced in connection with the excellent manner in which the juvenile officers had conducted the lodge. At the close of the meeting a number of items were given by the juveniles and were greatlyappreciated. Supper, under the supervision of a ladies’ committee, brought a most enjoyable meeting to a close.
