More North Island interest is being displayed, and a few lots aro going forward. Auckland advices aro to the effect that supplies arc nearly exhausted and southern potatoes will bo wanted in fair quantities shortly. Values locally remain practically the same as before tho holidays. Promt-. ■ wines are worth £4 2s 6d to £4 ss, f.0.b., s.i., and Dakotas 85s to 87s 6d. There is little business between growers and merchants; t.ho former anticipate that the market will not ease and the latter are awaiting the actual demand from Atcl'.land. FARMING NEWS. RURAL RAKINGS. The London Daily Express states that Great Britain imported 7732 tons of Soviet butter during January of this year, this being three times the amount of Soviet butter imported in January, . 1933. . The principal buyers are . co-operative societies, who blend it - with Empire butter, describing tho final mixture as “dairy butter” or ‘partly imported.” Under the English law, mo-operative societies are not bound to say hat tho butter is partly Russian. The treatment of all dairy products,. such is skim milk, which is fed to pigs, is a lecessary precaution where the farmer vishes to reduce the possibility of tubcr : :ulosis to a minimum. All such food should >e heated up to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, ,nd kept at that temperature for approximately 15 minutes. Any offal should be oiled before being fed to pigs. According to a recent report in an Engsh paper, agriculture is still declining in Ireat Britain. No fewer than 75,000 farm ■orkers have left the land since 1923, and 5,000 fewer acres were actually under •ops in 1932, as compared with 1931. A ro forma report indicates that tho 1933 ; gures will show a further heavy decline.
