PARTY’S NARROW ESCAPE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. A thrilling incident occurred during the retreat from an attempt to oross F’lyfe’s Pass from the Mueller Glacier to the Landsborough Valley undertaken by Messrs A. J. Scott (Christchurch) and D. W. Foster (Wellington), accompanied by Guide V. Williams, of Mount Cook Hermitage. Guide Williams had a narw.w escape when the upper lip of the sclirund broke away in front of him as he was cutting steps in the ice above it. Tho party was on the ice slope and. as all were roped together, nothing could have saved the others if the leader had been swept down.
