PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, March 13. The death occurred suddenly at the Pahiatua Public Hospital on Sunday night of Mrs Helen Constance Thompson, of Kohinui. The deceased la.dy, who was aged 39 years, was the second daughter of Mr H. M. B. Marshall and tho late Mrs Marshall. She was born at Bury St. Edmunds (England) and came to New Zealand with her parents at the age of three years. She had resided in the Pahiatua district practically all her life. Mrs I. Clulow, of Pahiatua, who has been making an extensivo tour of tlie South Island since November last, was in town yesterday. Slie is about to make another trip abroad, and will leave for England by the Rangitiki (via Panama) on Thursday. At last evening’s meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council a letter was received from the Department of Health enclosing the analyst’s report on the new well. The Mayor said that by the report the well water was very much better than, the present supply. He pointed out tha.t the well water was only half as hard as the reservoir supply and there were less solids in it. Tlie council might find well water _ in another position, but lie did not think it worth their while trying elsewhere. There was no guarantee that a better source could be tapped. Other councillors held a sinjilar view. The Mayor said that the new Fire Board pump would be ready in a day or so and would be utilised to get the level down in tlie well and complete the digging operations. It was decided to proceed with tbe auxiliary source of supply from tbe well.
