FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By "Binocular.”)

C;.'a’.ogue has been nominated for the Foley Memorial and the Autumn Handicap at the Avondale meeting. Lady Kyra, who will next race at Fending, is reported from Taranaki to be in great heart at present. Toxmiss, Moorwyn, and Strong Light have been scratched from their engagements at Trentham on Friday. Purse was backed and beaten at Woodville and the Paper Money mare is proving rather expensive to her supporters. Moatoa gave an indication at Pulls that he is coming back to form, but the Potoa gelding failed to run on in his engagements at Woodville. A. H. Eastwood will ride Copyist, Silly Owl, Scarlet Rambler, Pomp, and Rebel Star at the Trentham fixture. Sam Smith is booked for a trip to the Wellington meeting. He will be ridden by D. O’Connor, who has won on him at hin last two starts. -

K Voitre is credited with riding a nice race* on Aga Khan in the Storey Memorial at To Rapa. Aga Khan was allowed to run his own race and yet had something in reserve at the finish. Although now in the aged class White Fang retains his form wonderfully well. In the Hartgill Memorial Handicap at Woodville, on Saturday, he ran second under track conditions which were not to his liking. . . The. telephoning of the time registered m the Juvenile Handicap .prior to the judges placings being given led to to some com fusion at Woodville in one instance, when the numerals were peeted in the positions where the numbers of the horses were to figure. As it happened the first numeral, No. 1 coincided with a horee which had been narrowly beaten, and many patrons concluded that the judge had erred Emotion met with a slight mishap at the February meeting of the Woodville Club and he had to be c*sed,up m his work. He was a runner at Napier 1 ark, but at no stage was he going well. No doubt the race will improve him and he should show up at Easter time. . Tout le Mond was to have journeyed north this week to compete in the Champion Hack Cup at Trentham but he did not run well enough at Motukarara to encourage optimism and the trip has been cancelled. In spite of Saturdays failure, for which interference offered some excuse, Tout le Mond is coming along nicely in ins preparation and a win may be expected later in the season. , , Simeon was a starter in the Frankton Hurdles at Te Rapa on Thursday, and he ran quite a good race, seeing this was hie first start for some t.me. He was well up over the concluding stages and stayed on to get fourth place. . Stanchion will need a good deal . more experience before he is a proficient jumper At Te Aroha he fell at the first fence o the opening day, though he got round on the second, finishing a long way behind the placed horses. At le Rapa on Thuis

day ho again went at the first obstaclei Stanchion was a good horse when raced on the flat a season or two ago, and if he learns to jump properly he will take heading off, for lie has pace. Val Watch has only started in hurdle races on two occasions and she has made showings that augur well for her future in this department. At* Te Aroha she led into the straight, but then faded out, while at Te Rapa on Thursday she was in the picture all the way, finishing third. Val Watch, who was placed on the schooling list owing to her fractiousness when raced on the flat, 13 still very excitable. Lion Heart, a two-year-old by Gay Shield from Shebang, therefore a full brother to Tavern Knight, made his appearance in the Juvenile Handicap at To Rapa on Thursday, and he is a very promising sort. He is a well-grown youngster, with good action, and is a very free mover. He was lying fourth at the homo turn, where he went wide, but once straightened up finished on well to get third. Shatter gave a disappointing display in the Peninsula Cup last Saturday. He was well placed early, but ho shaped poorly over the last two' furlongs, finishing a long way back. As a result P. D. Jones hit, decided not to send him to Trentham this week. Shatter has a bad record this season. In spite of excellent track work ho has not won a race, and though lie has been placed a few times some of his worst performances have been registered when he looked like showing his best form. Tho following are the entries for the Easter Handicap, of £BOO one mile, at Ellerslic:—Golden Chant, Baroscope, Cadlaud, Master Norval, Rercatu, Star Artist, Epigram, Red Manfred, Lordly Knight, Golden Hair, Curie, Mungatoon, Seafox, Gay Sheila, Boughal, Lady Spy, King’s Archer, Carfcx, Pomp, Autopay, Palm Queen, Limbolim, Kiltowyn, Imamint, Jaildy Karo, Impasto, Jonathan, L’Allogro, King March, Gay Marigold, Calientc, Catalogue, Takakua.

WINOOKA’S TRAINER.

EN ROUTE TO UNITED STATES. Tho Randwick trainer, M. Poison, passed through Auckland at tho week-end on his way to tho United States. Poison said ho had been placed in - charge of YVinooka for the season, and would enter him for meetings conducted by large racing clubs in tho -eastern States. "A horse cannot do himself justice when ho has to do too much train travelling,” Poison said. “On occasions last year he was in a train for four days at a time and then had to race a few days later. This season I intend to race him principally between New York, Chicago and Virginia. If he strikes form there may be special match races, but that is a matter for tho future.” I Special feed had been sent to the United States with Winooka, Mr Poison continued, and fresh supplies, consisting of Now Zealand hay and Melbourne chaff and oats woidd be shipped in tho near future. Winooka would bo put in training about the end of March, and would start racing toward tho end of April.
