LONGBURN.

Mr A. Larson and Mr C. Hyde, members of the staff of the Kairanga Dairy Coy., were recently the recipients of handsome gifts given by members of the staff. In view of his approaching marriage, Mr H. Stewart presented Mr A. Larson with a carving set. Mr Larson thanked the members of the staff, adding that it gave him pleasure to work among his friends. A similar presentation was made to Mr Hyde, when. Mr Lemberg, in a short speech, presented him with an electric hot water jug and toaster. Mr Hyde suitably rgpponded. Although the weather lately has proved unsuitable for tennis playing, several members have kept up regular practice throughout the holidays. In a ladder match played recently Miss J. Shirriffs beat Miss U. Chamberlain, 7—5. Miss Shirriffs now occupies third position on the-ladder and if she continues improving as she has done since the beginning of the season the club will have found a most progressive member. H. Bowler challenged H. Mabey, but the latter retained his position by 9— 2. H. Bowler challenged and beat J. Fletcher 9—7, after a very even game. Mr F. Mahoney has returned from Pohangina. Mrs M. Pope lias returned to Petone after spending a few days with Mrs H. Bowler. Mrs Owen and her two daughters, of Christchurch, have returned home alter spending a holiday with Mrs Day, sonr. Miss I. Engibritsen, of Whctukura, has been staying with Mrs Foss. Mrs W. Fletcher is visiting relatives in Wanganui. Mr A. Nicol has been spending a short holiday in Wellington. Miss T. Olsen, who has been staying with Mrs G. Syversen, junr., has returned to Eketahuna. Mrs .Thomas is the guest of Mrs R. Cooksley. Mrs Brady, of Hastings, has returned after a short holiday spent with her daughter, Mrs N. Woodill. Mr and Mrs C. C. Hills have returned from a holiday spent at Paekakariki Beach. Miss F. Fletcher, of Wanganui, is visiting her parents in Karere. Mr V. Screech, of Raetihi, has been the guest of Mr and Mrs F. Birch. M/as C. Rowland has been appointed to the staff of the Longburn School. ,
