ACTION FOR SLANDER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. Damages amounting to £ls and cost's were awarded by Mr Stilwell, S.M., to-day against J. T. Owen in a slander action brought by F. H. Johnston. Plaintiff alleged that defendant used the words, in public hearing on September 5, “I see they put you in gaol for stealing fruit. That’s where they ought to keep you,” when plaintiff had not been in gaol. Another man of the same name had been before the Court for stealing fruit from an auction mart.
