AIR MAIL SERVICE.

DOMINION TO LONDON. POSTMASTER-GENERAL’S COMMENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. The fact that the air mail service between Sydney and London, to which the New Zealand Government has agreed to contribute £SOOO, may take only 16 days instead of 18 days, as previously announced, was mentioned by the Postmaster-General (Hon. A. Hamilton) in an interview this evening. He also said that published statements that correspondence forwarded to England by a Matson steamer and flown across America might reach London in 21 days if quick connection with an Atlantic steamer were made were correct. The air route across America was little used, however, for New Zealand correspondence and those who 5 desired to make use of a Matson boa appeared to forget that it was Vf ' heavily subsidised by the AmeriGovernment to compete with Br>..__ vessels. 3% Mr Hamilton said that assuming, <o m connections would be good a three y trip across the Tasman could bc' J ’* pected and there would thus be ; day. mail service from London. Any suggestion that we should present the need for a faster air se. vice between England and Australia \ might readily bring the rejoinder that ' 3 usually the person who pays the least ■ makes the most noise. “Apparently the relative smallness of our contribution toward the service is not realised,” the Minister added.
