(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, Oct. dO. The ICumeroa-Hopelands Women’s Institute hold a party in the Kumeroa Ilail on Friday evening to celebrate its third birthday. Surrounding institutes and branches of W.D.F.U. were represented. The hall was decorated with flowers and greenery, with the loiters W.I. worked in Powers occupying a prominent position. The president, Mrs B. H. Norman, extended a warm wolcomo to tho visitors. Mrs Munro, presidont of the Papatawa Women’s Institute, congratulated the Kumeroa-llopelauds members and hoped that the year ahead would be one of prosperity. Similar felicitations were expressed on behalf of Mrs W. Nixon, president of the Woodville Institute, who was unable to he present. A musical programme was enjoyed, concluding with a playette “Amelia Obliges,” given by members of the play reading circle of the W.D.F.U. All the players were applauded and Mrs McNeil presented with a bouquet. A pleasant ceremony was the cutting of the handsome birthday cake portions of which wore handed round. The cako was made by Mrs Miller and Mrs J. O’Neil and iced by Misses O’Hagan. -The three candles were lit by Mrs Travers Kemp (vice-president). Mrs Norman thanked all who had assisted, including tho artists, especially tho W.D.F.U. party and Messrs Brooker and Fannin, Mr and Mrs NewLirook for their assistance with tho supper, and the doorkeeper. After, a dainty supper had been served, tho hall was cleared for dancing, which was enjoyed until a lato hour. The duties' of M.C. were carried out by Mr L. Young. Woodville cricketers met DSnncvirko at the Recreation Ground on Saturday in the' first match of the Hunter 1" Shield series. Tile home team hatted first, and were dismissed for 74. Danncvij-ke’s innings realised 151. The visitors were fortunate in having the use of thq wicket at this stage as the weather was changeable. Woodville had lost two wickets lor 14 in their second innings when, stumps were drawn. Last evening the children’s choir of the Presbyterian Church held a delightful concert in the Anglican Parish Hall.. Tho hall was well filled by an appreciative audi'enco and tho stage was tastefully decorated with flowers and streamers. Alter the presentation of the programme, Rev. Mr Stewart, thanked tho children for their services, which wore a task of love, in helping to raise funds for the missions. He also thanked those who trained the children and encouraged them in their good work; and the audience by whose attendance a considerable sum was added to the mission fund. Mr F. Sutton, formerly Mayor of Lyttelton, is visiting his brother, Mr C. A. Sutton, of Woodville. Mr Walter Bowman, of Whariti Road, met with a painful accident on Saturday morning. He was lifting a can of cream into the cart to convey it to his gate when it slipped from his grasp and the bottom edge of the can crushed the end of his finger on the floor of the cart almost severing it. Medical attention was necessary. Mr R. G. Smith, of Woodville, secured tho high lambing percentage of 155 per cent, with a line of ewes on the flats at his farm in McLean Street. A total of 637 lambs were secured from 400 ewes. The Bishop of Waiapu, Dr Williams, officiated at a confirmation service at Holy Trinity Church last evening. There were eight candidates. His Lordship conducted all the services at Woodville and Kumeroa yesterday.
